General Information This 80-acre park with 22 acres of water is located 2 miles southwest of Greenfield, Iowa, on 250th Street. Nodaway Lake was built in 1936. Fishing, camping with showers and electricity, and a playground are the main attractions at this park. Shelters There is one very nice shelter at this lake available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are approximately 8 grills available in various locations. In 1995, the Young Adults installed new playground equipment. Camping Camping is permitted only in designated areas. Each camper is limited to four days use of the campgrounds and its facilities in any 7 day period. Camping is restricted to one basic unit per site except that a small tent or other type of camping unit may be placed on the site so long as the persons occupying the second unit are under 18 years of age and are dependant members of the family occupying the larger unit. There are 31 camp sites available at Lake Nodaway. The cost of an electrical site is $6.00 per night and a nonelectrical site is $3.00. Camping at Nodaway Lake is processed by self-registration. Camp sites are available on a first come, first serve basis--no reservations are taken. There are restrooms and showers available at the campgrounds. A trailer dump is available at NE Hayes and NE Seventh Street in Greenfield. |
Fishing, Boating, & Docks Lake Nodaway provides excellent fishing year-round. There is one paved boat ramp to make your fishing time more enjoyable. Only electric trolling motors are permitted. Lake Nodaway has bass, bluegill, walleye, crappie, and catfish. Lake Nodaway is stocked annually with 6-10 inch catfish in the fall of each year. It is also stocked annually with 6-10 inch walleye. To obtain a lake contour map and/or information on fishing licenses, contact the Adair County Conservation Board, 705 NE Sixth, Suite A, Greenfield, IA 50849, 515-743-6450. Daily Limits for Adair County Public Lakes: Bass - 3; Walleye - 5; Catfish - 8. The minimum length on bass in all Adair County Public Lakes is 15 inches. State Law requires the immediate release of all bass under 15 inches. Activities While visiting Nodaway Lake you may be entertained by the playgrounds, camping, hiking, and grills. There is also very beautiful scenery along the walking trails between Nodaway Lake and Lake Greenfield. There are 7 miles of trails between the two lakes. There are also many things to make your fishing easier. For a fun time at the nearby town of Greenfield, one can visit the Adair County Historical Complex and the E. E. Warren Opera House. One may also participate in the annual Wings, Wheels, and Whistles Weekend held the last weekend in August. Trail There are about seven miles of walking trails between Nodaway Lake and Lake Greenfield. Also, Nodaway Lake is adjacent to the 107 acre Ken Sidey Nature Area, a timber preserve containing over 3 miles of wooded trails. Enjoy beautiful scenery along these trails along with wildlife such as birds, deer, and squirrels. This lake is also a nesting place for geese and ducks. |
