General Information

One and a half miles southeast of Bridgewater, Iowa, at 2828 Delta Avenue this 35-acre lake offers fishing, camping with electricity, shelter houses, a playground, sailing, and swimming. Mormon Trail Lake is located within a 170-acre park. Mormon Trail Lake and Park provides recreation for visitors of all ages.

You will find a National Park Service historical marker commemorating the Mormon's migration through the area. The park is named after the Mormon Trail.

Shelters

There are two very nice shelters at this lake. The shelters are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Swimming

Swimming is available to all ages at Mormon Trail Lake. The swimming area is available between 7:00 A.M. and 9:30 P.M. Lifeguards are not provided. Swimming is at your own risk.

Camping

Camping is permitted only in designated areas. Camping is restricted to one basic unit per site except that a small tent or other type of camping unit may be placed on the site so long as the persons occupying the second unit are under 18 years of age and are dependent members of the family occupying the larger unit. The cost of an electrical site is $9.00 per night and a nonelectrical site is $6.00. There are 15 electrical sites and 5 non-electrical sites. There are no showers and the camping area has only pit toilets. Drinking water is available in the park. Camping is processed by self registration.

Fishing, Boating, & Docks

Mormon Trail Lake provides excellent fishing year-round. There is one paved boat ramp, two docks, and two fishing jetties to make your fishing time more enjoyable. Mormon Trail Lake has bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish (which is restocked with 6 to 10 inch catfish every fall), grasscarp, and walleye (which is restocked with 6 to 10 inch walleye every fall). Only electric trolling motors are permitted at this lake. Daily Limits for Adair County Public Lakes: Bass - 3; Walleye - 5; Catfish - 8. The minimum length on bass in all Adair County Public Lakes is 15 inches. State Law requires the immediate release of all bass under 15 inches.

Activities

While visiting Mormon Trail Lake you may be entertained at the playground, sailing, fishing and swimming. There is also very beautiful scenery at the park. The foliage is very colorful in the fall.

Shooting Range

A trap shooting range is available during the summer.
